Speed Distance Time Calculator
Find speed, distance or travel time from the other two, in miles, kilometers, knots and more.
Answer
60 mph
- In other units
- 60 mph · 96.5606 km/h · 26.8224 m/s · 52.1386 knots
Speed is the distance divided by the time.
Calculation breakdown
| Step | Formula | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Speed in m/s | 241,402 m ÷ 9,000 s | 26.8224 |
How it works
Choose whether to find speed, distance or time, then fill in the other two.
Worked example
A trip of 150 miles takes 2 hours 30 minutes:
- Time in hours: 2 + 30 ÷ 60 = 2.5 h
- Speed: 150 ÷ 2.5 = 60 mph
- In other units, that is 96.56 km/h or 26.82 m/s
Units
All calculations are done in meters and seconds and converted back, so changing a unit never changes the answer.

Frequently asked questions
What is the speed distance time formula?
Speed equals distance divided by time. Rearranged, distance equals speed times time and time equals distance divided by speed. Driving 150 miles in 2.5 hours is an average of 60 mph.
How do I convert between mph, km/h, m/s and knots?
One mile per hour is exactly 0.44704 m/s and 1.609344 km/h. A knot is one nautical mile (1,852 m) per hour, or about 0.5144 m/s. The calculator converts all of these for you.
How do I calculate travel time?
Divide the distance by the speed. 150 miles at 60 mph takes 2.5 hours, shown as 2:30:00. The answer is shown in hours, minutes and seconds.
Is this average speed or constant speed?
The formulas treat the speed as constant. For a trip with stops or changing speed, enter the total distance and the total time to get the average speed.
How do I enter the time?
Use the separate hours, minutes and seconds boxes. For 1 hour 45 minutes, enter 1, 45 and 0.
